CASES OF INFLUENZA.

MANY PEOPLE SUFFERING. Many people in Auckland arc afflicted with a more or less mild type of influenza. Office staffs have been depleted, while many children have been away from school. At one city school, 90 children, afflicted with influenza, were away at the one time. Tiie opinion of Dr. T. J. Hughes, medical officer of health, is that although of a mild type, the influenza might easily develop serious complications if the patient does not observe the necessary precau-

tions. As an elementary precaution, Dr. Hughes advises a throat gargle comprising a teaspoonful of salt in <1 pint of water,

tinged with Condy's fluid. Danger often arose when patients left their beds too soon. They should remain in bed until a normal temperature had been maintained for 48 hours. In view of the fact that influenza* was very infectious, contact of the patient with others should be avoided.
