CHURCH SERVICES.

POOR CONGREGATIONS. CALL FOR " A WHIP." 'At a farewell function to the Rev. A. C. Grieve, Presbyterian minister at Bathurst, New South Wales, who has accepted a call to Drummoyne, Mr. A. Smith, speaking for the committee of management of the church, said that it Avon Id not have been necessary for Mr. Grieve to leave Bathurst if the congregation had treated him as they should Jiave done. Out of a congregation numbering 700, only 30 or 40 found it convenient to attend church.

It was time, said Mr. Smith, that the whip was cracked over them, as jt-heii" minister had not received the support and encouragement to which he was entitled. Mr. A. Patterson, an old member of the congregation, said that lie did not believe in being driven to church. Men were like sheep in that respect, and preferred to be led.
