A statement which has been published in New Zealand to tho effect that Professor Hanbeig, of Denmark, during his residence in tho Dominion invented tho world's first or • talking machine, as it was then called, and that tho patent rights of the machine were eventually purchased by Thomas Edison for several hundred pounds is referred fo by tho great American inventor as absolutely incorrect. "The original idea of the phonograph and its reduction to practice," says Mr. Edison, "were wholly and entirely mine." ! -
