KAURI GUM INDUSTRY.

WORK OF CONTROL BOARD. THE LEASING OF RESERVES. The monthly meeting of tho Kauri Gum Control Board was held 011 Wednesday and Thursday. Mr. M. 11. Wynyard presided and all the members were present. Ten applications for kauri gurn buyers' licences were granted. Four applications for the lease of portions of kauri gum reserves were referred to tho board by the Lands Department. In two cases it was decided to offer no objection to the upliftment of tho reservation over the areas applied for. In tho other two cases it was decided that consideration of tho applications should be deferred until the areas had been inspected and reports received.

It was decided to seek authority to enable advances against kauri gmji sent to the board to be made up to 75 per cent, of the estimated value, instead of being limited to 50 per cent., as is the case at present. An inspection was made of the kauri gum cleaning-plant at Penrose, which is now Hearing completion, A trial run was made which was of a very satisfactory nature and indicated the possibilities of tho plant when fully ready for operations.
