MINERAL PIG FOODS.
No domestic animal possesses the instinct of knowing what its system requires better than the pig, says an Australian farming journal, and the same claim can be made respecting the cra\ ing for mineral matter which is not so manifest in any other farm anima s. Should the requisite amount of mineral matter needed for the growth of the animal be not supplied m their food, tie pigs will, if given their liberty, find m the earth that which they need. Anyone who has had anything to do with pigs must have noticed this strong desire for mineral substances, particularly in the case of growing animals and breeding sows. Mineral matter in a natural state, as is found in the earth, or in the form of inorganic salts in burnt wood, bones and vegetation, is essential to pigs, ami is utilised not only for the formation or tho skeleton, but in the case of brood sows is necessary for the development of the unborn young.
