Underwriting arrangements havo been made for tlie issue of Commonwealth 5 per cent. 1945-75 stock to the amount of £12,403,734 in conversion of Queensland per cent, stock maturing on July 1. At the London wool sales to-day 10,689 bales were offered, of which 4186 were New Zealand. There was an excellent selection of Merinos which cleared well and a large offering of New Zealand slipes and scoureds. A good tone prevailed and all sections operated freely at full rates. There was a. good average yarding of cattle at. the. Matamata sale on Wednesday, and all entries sold at late rates. Although many Sydney merchants would welcome tho withdrawal of the embargo on New Zealand potatoes it is regarded as improbable that the request of the New Zealand growers to have the restriction lifted during June, July and August will be granted. It is contended that if the embargo were once lifted it would be difficult to reimposo it.
