NOTES FROM ELLERSLIE

GOSSIP OF THE TRACKS.

BY ARCHER. With the flags out about 25ft., the outside of the course proper was available at Ellerslie yesterday and several useful gallops were recorded. A serviceable effort was that of Bizarro in beating Diamond Queen and Killute over six furlongs in 1.22 3-5. Another to move freely was Harbour View, who defeated Kamehameha and Master Doon over a round in 2.11 3-5. Clockwork led these horses over the last four furlongs, which he ran in 5S 3-ss. Lady Suzanne also sprinted and reeled off four furlongs in 53 3-ss.

It seems doubtful whether Importer is going to stand a preparation for winter racing On various occasions he has displayed soreness and he was troubled again when working yesterday. Importer ia a safe jumper and solid stayer and it is unfortunate for his connections that he should be affected with unsoundness at a time when there would have been opportunities to place him to advantage.

While working last week Beau Cavalier inflicted a nasty cut above the fetlock on tho near foreleg and is at present on the easy list. In the meantime he is receiving veterinary attention and tho wound is healing slowly It is likely to be some days before he is able to resume work and the stoppage in his preparation at this stage is riot going to improve his prospects at the coming winter carnival.

With a view to being schooled for jumping events at the winter meeting. Bright Land if) to go into tho charge of J. Williamson at Ellerslie in the course of a few days. The imported gelding has only had a couple of runs in the Dominion and has shown no form here, although he shaped sufficiently well over hurdles at the summer carnival to indicate that he might win when more seasoned.

It is the intention of Mr. W. C. Ring to retire from racing and the whole of his stud and horses in training are to be offered at auction at an early date. Unless present intentions are altered, the sale will be held shortly before the winter carnival at Ellerslie. Among the lots he will offer ore the imported sire Valkyrian and a number of choicely-bred mares.

One of the latest additions to the jumping brigad«> is W T ar Officer and he shaped nicely in a schooling task over a few hurdles with Adjuster at Ellerslie yesterday War Officer has disappointed his connections lately by galloping well on the tracks and failing to show any dash in his races. Possibly he may prove a better proposition as a jumper.

All is going well with Hydo Park and ho is one of the popular early selections for tho Cornwall Handicap. Those who favour his chance have sound reasons for the belief that he will race prominently, as ho raced consistently well during the autumn campaign and is also very partial to heavy going, which is invariably experienced at the winter carnival at Ellerslie.

After a lengthy spell Daddy's Girl has resumed work at Ellerslie under tho dire - tion of J. Preston. She is very burly after her holiday and it will be some time before she regains thorough racing condition.

Southern reports state that the Otagotrained horses Umtali, Kapuna, Full Flight, Booster, Black Duke and Overhaul are hooked to leave for tho North Island th7s week with a view to racing at Hawera, Wnriganui and Ellerslie. It is rarely that we have visitors from so far south at meetings at headquarters nowadays and the presence of the horses named at the winter carnival will be interesting.'

For some time past P. Scally has had his headquarters at Avondale, but he is now at Ellerslie with Branson and Chelone and intends remaining there until after the winter meeting. Branson and Chelone are both in nice order and should not lack condition in their coming engagements. Chelone haß failed to get away well in his latest outings and at his last start was left standing at the post.

Bayly Damon is making steady progress in his preparation for jumping events ahead and has improved a good deal in condition under the care of W Gall. With ,T. Burgess i:n the saddle, Bayly Damon was schooled over a few hurdles yesterday and gave a satisfactory display.
