AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING
PAY OF WATERSIDE WORKERS INCREASE SURPRISES OWNERS. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. LONDON, April 30. The news cabled from Australia that the pay of the waterside workers had been increased by ljd an hour, and that the New South Wales Government had imposed a tax of 2 per cent, on wages sheets for child endowment, has caused surprise I® London business circles, as these impositions will entail large increases in tho costs of stevedoring to tho steamship companies. Disappointment is expressed that the visit of the shipping delegation was apparently futile, as far as securing reductions in costs in Australia is concerned.
