MOUNT WELLINGTON WORKS
HEAVY TRAFFIC ON ROADS. Tho Mount Wellington Road Board met on Tuesday evening, the chairman, Mr. G. H. Kay, presiding. The engineer of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board wrote stating he would be unable to proceed further with the report on tho comprehensive drainage of all tho area between the Waitemata and Manukau harbours, as ho was shortly proceeding overseas to investigate various systems of sewage disposal. On his return the matter would be proceeded with. The board expressed tho view that, apparently the question of the disposal of sewage from the industrial area in their district would have to be deferred until the return of tho drainage board's engineer.
Several carrying firms wrote to the board in connection with the classification of roads and the restrictions imposed on carriers. It was decided to defer action until the next meeting, to enable the carriers to place definite agreements before tho board to accept liability for damage done and compensation for injury to roads in return for permission to exceed the limits fixed for traffic.
