HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

Tlio following weather forecast! for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. H. M. Vincent last evening :—A temporary improvement in the weather is indicated, mainly fair to fine conditions prevailing for a brief period, followed by further cloudy and unsettled weather, and rain over most of the Dominion. Westerly to south-westerly winds, moderate to, strong, decreasing, and veering by north to east, then freshening again. Seas moderating 011 the west coast, but increasing shortly on. the east coast, especially northward of East Cape. Milder temperatures. A secondary depression is approaching from the west, while a disturbance of tropical character is developing north-westward of Now Zealand. Barometer, midnight, rising 1.. 29.951n. Midnight, Tuesday .. u. 29,75 in. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —A series of lowpressure waves extends between the Chathams and Tasmania. An anti-cyclone is advancing on to eastern Australia. Indications are for moderate to strong southwest to north-west winds, reaching gale force at times about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Seas rather rough south of Cape Egmont. Rough in Foveaux Strait and still a considerable swell south of Castlepoint. Elsewhere moderate. Moderate to strong south-west to north-west winds in the eastern Tasman Sea. Rather rough seas in the southern portion and moderate in the northern portion. Weather mainly fair, but cloudy in districts with a westerly aspect, with some scattered showers. Some inland frosts in the South Island,. but temperatures otherwise moderate. RAINFALL RECORD.
