THIRTY TONS OF FISH.
UNPROFITABLE SHIPMENT. DISPOSAL AT MELBOURNE. With 30 tons of fish from what is reported to bo a new and highly prosperous fishing ground off tho north-east of Tasmania, the trawler Nodzu, owned by Cam and Sons, of Sydney, reached Melbourne last week. The fish were shovelled from the wells of tho trawler and packed into 600 boxes. Mr. C. Cam, who supervised tho unloading, said that the visit of the Nodzu to Melbourne was an experiment, but he feared that it would prove a costly one. Ho received only £1 a box for flathead, whereas the price in Sydney was £3. Perch realised 10s a box, whereas the Sydney pri.ce was 255. Some time ago he sent a trawler to Melbourne and lost £4OO on the trip. This trip ho estimates will result in a loss of £3OO. In spite of the fish being sold at very low prices, retail prices in the shops that day Were unaltered.
