AVIATION IN AUSTRALIA.
SOME COMING EVENTS.
BIG PAGEANT IN SYDNEY. [-FROM our own correspondent.] SYDNEY. April IS. This year promises to be a red-lettoi* one in Australia for private aerial enterprise. The first outstanding event will be a big pageant in Sydney next month, with, among other events, the Derby Handicap, of £SOO. This race attracted last year about thirty fliers, but the field is likely to be bigger on this occasion, and to attract the cream of trie airmen. Another notable air event will be the establishment in June of the East - West passenger and mail service, necting Perth and Adelaide by air with tho massive 14-passenger Hercules air liners, and expediting by that means the outward and inward English mails for all tho States. , This will be followed toward the end of the year by a great cross-continent atr race., commencing in Sydney _ and finishing in Perth, in connection with the centenary of Western Australia. Sydney has now a number of airwomen, and it is not improbable that one or two of them will "hop off" in this event if they think the conditions offer them any prospect of success.
