POSITIONS FOR TEACHERS. transferring city school. The Auckland Education Board met yesterday, the chairman, Mr. A. Burns, presiding. The necessity for the provision of additional playing room at the Seddon Memorial Technical College was stressed in a letter received from the College Board of Governors, which asked whether the Education Board would lie willing to transfer the pupils of the Wellesley Street primary school to (he old Grammar School building, provided the Education Department found the necessary funds, making available the primary school'grounds for the Technical College. It was decided to inform the Technical College governors that the board had no objection to the scheme if the department was agreeable. Answering representations which had been made to him concerning the employment of ex-students of the Training College, the Minister of Education. Hon. If. Atmore, wrote stating that lie did not consider it advisable that boards should be allowed to give trainees their first permanent appointment without competition. Further inquiries would be made to sec whether it was possible for exstudentss to remain as supernumaries with salaries equal to their Training College allowance until their services were required on permanent or relieving work. The chairman remarked that there were 154 Auckland students who had no permanent employment, including 109 who held temporary positions. The Education Department advised the board that the appointment of additional assistants at the Fairfield, Hamilton West and New Lynn schools, and the Te A wain 11 tu primary department had been authorised.

The attendance of pupils of standards 4, 5 and 6 of the city and suburban schools at organ recitals to lie held in the Town Hall on May 6, 7 and 8 was approved. An application from the Te Rapa School Committee for permission to introduce the Nelson system of Bible rending into the school was received, and the committee was authorised to use its discretion in the matter, the introduction of the svstern beinc optional. The committee stated that a poll of parents had been taken, 17 votin? for and 8 against the proposal. A proposal to alter the name of the Waikielc'e East school to Huarangi was approved.
