TIN-POT LOCAL BODIES.
Sir,—As a ratepayer of One Tree Hill district, kindly allow me space to rsply to Mr. Dobbie's letter on the above subject. It is quite possible our rales are less than the city's (certainly not half), but Mr. Dobbie overlooks the fact that the roads and footpaths of our' district are the worst in New Zealand. Tho rate the city dwellers pay may be higher, but do they not get value for their money ? Where in the whole of Auckland city will you find anything like Campbell Road, with its 3ft. footpath on one side only, and no kerb, and carriageway dotted with pot-holes? This is one of the main roads of the district, and is typical of the rest. The board should draw up a comprehensive loading and footpaith scheme for the whole district (not merely the Epsom end of it) for submission to the ratepayers, oelse approach the City Council with a view to amalgamation. Let progress be out slogan, not stagnation. P r A.».
