POWER BOARD TRADING.
Sir,—l notice that in dealing with the question of local body trading in Monday's Herald, Mr. J W. Hayden, chairman of the Waitemata Electric-Power _ Board, states, among other things that his board sells electric ranges "at tho same rates the retailers sell at." Surely Mr. Hayden must know that this statement is incorrect. The Waitemata Electric-Power Board sells electric ranges at tho usual list prices, but an electric kettle is given free with every range. This is not the usual practice with retailers, as they cannot afford to do it, but in some cases they are forced to do it or else lose the salo of electric range. The result is practically no profit for tho retailer, but a paying consumer for the Power «J3oard. It is no use beating about tho bush. Iho Waitemata Electric-Power Board is competing against tho private retailer in many cases, and it is time something was done to rectify tho trouble. A Retailer.
