AMANULLA'S RUSE.
AFGHAN SUPERSTITION. HOW ARMY WAS RECRUITED. CALCUTTA. April 20. Obeidulla, a mining engineer, who was recently in the service of the Afghan Government, and who has arrived in Calcutta, said the ex-King Amanulla was for a long time unable to raise forces in Kandahar, and had contemplated a departure for the Province of Herat. He announced that he would take out the Prophet's cloak, and display it to the people. For two hours, in front of a crowd of 50,000 or 60,000, Amanulla was unsuccessful in opening the box. Ultimately, he succeeded, and displayed the Holy Relic. After this the superstitious began to flock to his standard, and he would probably have an army of 50,000 men.
