TAXES IN FRANCE.
THEATRES TO BE CLOSED.
100,000 FACE UNEMPLOYMENT.

As a protest against charity, State and municipal taxes, which are declared to be crippling the theatrical .industry, a national theatre congress at Nice resolved to close all the theatres in France. This will render idle 100,000 persons. The resolution will come into operation on May 15 unless Parliament is summoned specially to give relief by amend ing the Budget. At present Parliament stands convoked to the end of May.
Tho chief objection is to the charity tax, known ns "the right of the poor.
