AUSTRALIA'S HEROES.
MEMORIAL TO FALLEN.
Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON. April 23.
The High Commissioner for Australia, Sir Granville Ryrie. in the presence of the Agents-General for the Commonwealth, unveiled a memorial at Harefield Church to 112 Australian soldiers who died in the Harefield Hospital and were buried in the churchyard. Sir Francis Newdegate, formerly Governor of Western Australia, who is patron of the Harefield living, donated the memorial.
In the courso of his address, Sir Granville said Australia was proud to have sent 400,000 of her sons overseas. They had all been volunteers. A total of 56,000 had made the supreme sacrifice. The vicar, the Rev. J. Grundy, dedicated the memorial and preached from the text: "Greater love hath no man," etc. Sir Francis read the lessons. The Harefield Boys' Brigade sounded the "Last Post" and the "Reveille."
The battalion flags which Australian children gave to Harefield children were draped round the memorial. The vicar also dedicated an "Australian gate" leading to the Australians' graves.
