TO-DAY'S WEATHER.
HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. The following woather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr, 11. M. Vincent last evening:—Squally and cold, wintry weather is indicated, with heavy ram over most of the Dominion. Thunderstorms, accompanied by hail, arc expected in many places, particularly in coastal areas, while snow is likely on the higher levels in the south. North-westerly winds, st roup; to galo, backing by west to south. Rough to heavy seas in tlio Bay of Plenty, in Cook Strait and on the west coast. Southerly gales aro advancing from the Tasman Sea, bringing much colder weather io the Dominion, and stormy conditions generally. The intense storm system is still operating over Now Zealand, but an area of high barometric pressure is approaching from the west. Expect a rapid increase in pressure shortly. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows:—A very intenso cyclone has gradually moved southwards and is now centred west of Farewell Spit. Indications are for strong winds to gales, generally northerly backing shortly to southerly between (ho Bay of Plenty and East Capo; elsowhcro southerly. Seas rough to heavy in Now Zealand waters. Strong southerly winds to gales with high seas in tlio Eastern Tasman Sea. Weather still dull and stormy with further general rain and many heavy falls, especially in tlio South Island and about Cook Strait, with considerable flooding, thunder in places and snow on the ranges.
