BRILLIANCE OF AUSSIE.
WEIGHT-FOR-AGE PROSPECTS
The latest feat of Aussie in winning the Storey Memorial Cup at Te Rapa on Saturday bears out the contention that he would be a successful weight-for-ago performer. Carrying 9.9 over the mile and a-quarter, he beat some very useful horses. This marks Aussie's first success over a distance beyond a mile. The majority of his successes have been over six furlongs, but he has twice won at a mile, namly, in the King's Plato at the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Meeting, and in the Hazlett Gold Cup at the Dunedin Jockey Club's Autumn Meeting. Aussie's defeat of Limerick in the latter event is still fresh in the memories of followers of the sport. Hitherto regarded more or less as a pure sprinter, Aussie has now proved himself capable of carrying a substantial burden over a distance under none too favourable conditions. His future career, therefore, is fraught with interest, and it is Quite possible he may be seen measuring strides with the best in the land in weight-for-age contests over varying distances.
