WORK OF ACCLIMATISATION.

ACTIVITIES AT DARGAVILLE. ("BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 DARGAVILLE, Sunday. At tho annual meeting of the Hobson Acclimatisation Society, the balance-sheet presented showed a surplus of receipts over expenditure of £152. The chairman, Mr. F. J. Dargaville, said last year's shooting season created a record. The number of licences issued was 402. A sum of £172 had been spent in purchasing pheasants from local breeders, rieasuro was expressed at the increasing number of local people who had taken up tho breeding of pheasants. Inquiries were being made in connection with tho introduction of partridges into tho district. Efforts to make all the opening dates for the shooting season on the same clay had not been successful. The erection of a trout hatchery in tho Waipoua Forest stream had been rejected by the State Forestry Department. No trout had been purchased during tho season, and the question of erecting a new hatchery was under consideration. A resolution was passed recommending that the shooting season open on May 1 next season. It was decided to endeavour to secure 25 brace of Californian quail, also to protest against pukeko being protected.

The following officers were elected:— Patron, Rt. Hon J. G. Coates; president, Mr. Georgo Marchant; auditor, Mr. A. L. Billing; secretary, Mr. J. P. Stanaway; chairman of council, Mr. F. J. Dargaville; vacancies in council, Messrs. R. Wilkins, F. Izzard, R. W. Cuthbert and J. F. O'Brien.
