WHY GIRLS ARE HEALTHIER

At a gathering of headmasters in England, Mr. E. T. England, of Owen's School, said: —" There are in England several excellent colleges for women specialist teachers in physical training, but there is not a singlo one for men. That is very odd, and the reason for this curious neglect is that it has been assumed that a boy's health is adequately safeguarded by games. Looking at tho young women as compared with the young men in employment now and contrasting them with their predecessors 20 years ago, it will bo seen that there is now a certain difference between tho sexes that was not thero then. Twenty years ago physical education for girls was scandalously neglected. The need was great, and they proceeded to meet it. It was not so great with tho bovs, and so it never has been met, I suggest that tho enormous improvement in tho healthy dress of women has been influenced by ( their physical training mistresses, and I havo . no" sympathy whatever with attacks on women's costumes. There is a very great, difference in tho modern young women s carriage. The dress of young men is not as healthy or as beautiful as that of young women, and modern young women carry themselves much better _ than modem young men. Physical training of boys is not as good as that_ of their sisters, and thero is not a sufficient number of expert teachers."
