MASE COMES DOWN.
FLIGHT ENDS IN FRANCE.
AIRMAN LITTLE INJURED. (Received April 28. 5.5 p.m.) United Service. PARIS, Apcil 27. Tho attempted (light to Australia of Mr. Frank Masc, of Auckland, came to an end at Roaunc, 42 miles north-west of Lyons yesterday. Ito left Lympnc, Kent, at 6.15 a.m. Engine troublo caused a forced landing to be made near a level crossing on the Roanno to St. Eliennc railway line. Mr. Mase spent 90 minutes testing the machine, arid then he (lew off, but fouled some trees which brought the machine down into a steeply-sloping cornfield. Mr. Mase again set off, but he struck an embankment and tho machine was completely overturned. He was caught in the cockpit, with his head hanging down, but some workmen hastily released him.
Mr. Mase went by train to Lyons later in tho morning, lie suffered only slight injuries to his face. Mr. Mase has sent a message regretting the occurrence.
MACHINE TO BE REPAIRED. FLIGHT MAY BE RESUMED. (Received April 29. 12.35 a.m.) United Service. LONDON, April 28. A further examination of Mr. Mase's aeroplane indicates that the damage is not as serious as was feared. The engine and fuselage are hardly affected. Tho machine is being transported to England, where it is believed it will be possible to effect repairs in a fortnight, after which Mr. Mase will reconsider the question of resuming his flight.
