YACHTING SEASON.

[THE OFFICIAL CLOSING DAY.

I COMBINED EVENTS DECIDED. WINDWARD LOSES HER MAST. The official vlosing of the yachting season in Auckland took place on Saturday, under 1110 auspices of tho Auckland \ucbt and Motor-boat Association. Tho l.ecl yachts, mullet boats und launches raced to Islington Bay, and tlio smaller classes competed over harbour courses. A wholesail breezo from the north-east wns blowing throughout the afternoon, which gave the boats a good test on all points of sailing.

In the. race for the big keel yacht 3, Windward, owned by Mr. M. D. Grayson, carried away her mast in Rangitoto Channel and was towed back to tho harbour by tho yacht Ladyo Wilma. Racing in the harbour the 10-footer Sceptre capsized and was picked up by Mr. I>. L. Stewarts launch Duchess. Entries in the various clubs were sood for this time of the year, and the majority of the boats faced the starter and completed tho course. In the cruisiug event the 9cct was divided into five classes, tho boats of each club racing together in their own classes. All events were started from the tower on King's "Wharf. by 'Ladye Wilmu. which 'owed her to her moorings in Mechanics' Bay. Scout also stood by Windward and tinully withdrew from the race. THE HAB.I3OTJR RACES. The race for it c'.asa brought out six competitors, which were sent away to an rcllent start. Mawhili was over the line and wns closely followed by Maroro..Matarere, • Manori'e, Maia and Maratea. Manene <iid well on tins beat to Resolution buoy, nnd finally took the lead. Maratea was second boat ou the, run from bandspjt to King's Wharf, and. although passod by Mawhiti just before reaching the mark boat, she regained her position in making the turn.
