NEW ZEALAND'S EXPORTS.
REMEDY FOR UNEMPLOYMENT.
[BY TELEGBAJPH. —PBESS ASSOCIATION.] FEILDING, Saturday. Speaking at the opening of the Young Farmers' Club Show yesterday the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. J. G. Co'bbe, congratulated the promoters on encouraging an interest in agriculture. He said that for the year ended in March New Zealand's exports totalled £57,154,343, of which £55,417,328 caraa off the land. ''
Recently he had visited some of the principal factories of the Dominion. In complimenting the manufacturers on their excellent products he had pointed out that their market was only a local one. They must ,uell their manufactures within New Zealand, therefore their progress and success depend on the prosperity of the farmers. The most troublesome problem to-day was unemployment. Relief work was only a temporary expedient. The real remedy was to bo reached through ths avenue of land settlement and the intensive farming of small areas. Puch a remedy required careful consideration bsfore its adoption. Those who were encouraging: the young people to take a real interest in farming were doing a valuable work in helping to solve the unemployment problem.
