UNOCCUPIED HILL LANDS. MINISTER TO INSPECT AREAS. [I!Y TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. 1 COROMANDEL, Wednesday. The question of making available for selection the unoccupied hill lands on the Hauraki Peninsula to enable the farmers on the Ilauraki Plains to have a run off on high country in which to winter their stock, was dealt with by tho Minister of Lands, Hon. G. W. Forbes, in a letter to the Coromandel County Council this week. Tho Minister stated that lie noted the members of tho council were not unanimous on the question whether it would be wise to denude tho hills of all timber, and also the suggestion that a; commission be set up to go carefully into the whole position. K was his intention to visit the district in the near future. Definite dates had not yet been arranged, but tho visit would probably take place next month. Arrangements would bo made, giving ample notice ty the council, tho member of Parliament for tho district and other local bodies concerned. In the meantime tho points raised in the council's letter would receive careful consideration in conjunction with representations received from other sources, and with reports which tho Minister was obtaining from responsible officers, respecting the whole question of unoccupied areas in the poninsula and adjacent districts.
