POST IN BRITISH COLUMBIA.

A New Zealand woman who has made a mark for herself in the United States and Canada, Dr. J. Pilcher, professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia, arrived from Vancouver by the Aorangi last evening, and with her husband and son will spend a holiday in the Dominion,

Relinquishing the position of science mistress at the Auckland Girls' Grammar School nine years ago, Dr. Pilcher went to tho United States and spent six j-ears at Stanford University, where she gained the degree of doctor of philosophy. Before her appointment to tho University of British Columbia, she spent some time at the University of lowa. "One does not get any consideration because one is a New Zealander at an American university," Dr. Pilcher said. "Every stuclent has to make his own way, and to do this every student must work very hard indeed. Many people in the United States think that New Zealand is part of Australia."

Tho subject of psychology was a very important ono at all American universities, Dr. Pilcher added. Medical students wero obliged to take a course, for instance. In Canada and in England, also, the subject of psychology was playing a largo part in university training. Dr. Pilcher is" paying her first visit to Now Zealand in nine years. She was educated at Otago University, and during tho course of her tour will visit it again.
