HARBOUR BRIDGE SCHEME.
INTEREST AT TAKAPUNA.
FACTOR IN THE ELECTIONS
The dominant influence upon the municipal election at Takapuna will unquestionably be the question of the construction of the Waitemata Harbour Bridge, which will also have weight in the North Shore boroughs. Practically all the Takapuna candidates nominated are pledged in a greater or less degree to support the scheme. Where there is any difference among them, it is on the question of site—whether the bridge should be from the vicinity of Beaumont Street. Auckland, to the middle of Shoal Bay, as proposed bv the Bridge Association, or further up the harbour. Fresh heart has been instilled into the advocates of the proposal by the change alreadv made in the personnel of the Harbour Board. The appointment by the Government of an acknowledged bridge advocate. Mr. E. Aldridge, in the room of the Hon. E. W. Alison, is interpreted as a confirmation of the belief that the Government is favourable to the scheme, and I lie election in the outlying districts of members of the new board is being watched with the keenest interest.
