DELAY IN DEPARTURE.

A -VARIETY OF CAUSES. The departure of the Melanesian Mission steamer Southern Cross for the Solomon Islands and the New Hebrides has now been postponed until Monday, a variety of causes contributing to her delay,

The principal reason is that three of the native members of the crew arc now at Cintra, suffering from influenza. Two of them are reported to be making a good recovery, and it is expected they will be well enough to join the ship on Monday. The position of the third man is uncertain.

Delay in loading the vessel 011 account of wet weather is given as another reason for her detention hero. The only loading facility is a small hand winch, providing a very slow and obsolete method of handling cargo. It is further stated that the Southern Cross met with delay in getting into dry dock for cleaning.
