THANKS FOR ASSISTANCE. TRIBUTE FROM MEN'S LEADER. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. LONDON, April IS. The Prince of Wales and Mr. A. J. Cook, general secretary of the Miners' Federation, stood chatting in the liveliest fashion after a luncheon at the Mansion House, at which the Princo personally thanked the workers for the Coalfields Distress Fund, for which ho had broadcast an appeal.

The Prince said: "I wish to thank from the bottom of my heart the subscribers, small and largo, nob only in England, but in the Dominions and America, one might almost say all over the world. The response was remarkable, but we are not yet out of the wood. Much remains to be done. "I know 1 can rely with confidence on the continuous and valuable assistance of all."

Mr. Cook said: ''We owe to tho Prince a very real measure of thanks. His whole-hearted enthusiasm has brought the throne quite close to the populace. It is thanks to tho Prince that'l am able to come hero without contaminating any one of you. llis conduct and attitude have shown to all mankind the great qualities he has in common with us.

"You, sir," said Mr. Cook speaking •iifectly to the Prince across tho table, "have done a marvellous thing. Never was I so impressed as by your speech on Christmas night. T was with two Communist friends when your name was announced. They undoubtedly scoffed, but when you had finished tears were in their eyes. They put their hands in their pockets and gave what they had."
