COASTAL VESSEL ASHORE.
MISHAP IN MOKAU RIVER.: CARGO OF v; FORTY TONS[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN. CORRESPONDENT-] NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. Tho small coastal oil vessel Kapui, which is engaged in the Waitara-Mokau trade, when entering tho Mokau River last evening with a full cargo of 40 tons, including 20 tons of bitumen and a quantity of manure, touched the bar and got out of the channel. Eventually the vessel grounded on the beach about 100 yards north of the river mouth. To-day tho vessel appeared to bo undamaged. Tho Kapui is owned by the Taranaki Shipping Company, Waitara,, and was commanded by Captain Halcrow. Her tonnage is about 40 tons. Efforts are being made to refloat her. Tho Wei.ere, a larger vessel than t-ha Kapui, went ashoro at Mokau on March 50, 1927, aud was successfully refloated on April 5. - Tho mishap to the Kapui is tho second in the past few weeks. The ketch Aratapu was recently ashore just off tho mouth of tho Waitara River for several days, being refloated without serious damage.
