CHARGE OF ASSAULT.
ACCUSED FINED £5, PROSECUTION AT HUNTLY. fsy TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HUNTL}', Friday. A charge of aggravated assault on a girl of 11 years at Rangiriri was preferred against Thomas Burt, aged 39, in the Huntly Magistrate's Court yesterday. It was stated in evidence that accused accosted the girl and kissed her. He fmelt of liquor at tho time. In fining Burt £5 the Bench took the view that accused was fortunate in that there appeared no intention to commit a crime, but refused to suppress his name, stating that children must be protected.
