NEW ZEALAND RAILWAYS.
AN ILLUSTRATED BOOKLET. An attractive booklet, "Tho State Railways of Now Zealand," has been issued by the publicity branch of tlie Railways Department. The publication has been prepared for the purpose of showing the present state of development of the system, which comprises more than 3000 jouto miles. The general range of the department's activities is illustrated by photographs, which include some fine mountain and forest views. Interesting reading matter covers the history of the State railways, tho facilities afforded for travel, and tho department's enterprise in various directions. Introducing the booklet to the public, Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of railways, states: —"I trust that the information conveyed may help you to gain some further knowledge of the widespread national interests that New Zealand's State-owned system of transportation serves, and its vital association with that .progressive enterprise in land settlement and development, which has given this country the leading place, as the greatest, per capita exporter of primary produce in the world/'
