LONG SERVICE APPRECIATED
MR. G. -KNIGHT'S " RETIREMENT
After 26 years of continuous service as a member of the. Auckland City Council Mr. G. Knight attended his final meeting as a councillor last evening. Notice of the fact that Mr. JKnight is not seeking re-election was taken by the council, several members paying high tributes to his work for the city.
The Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, expressed his appreciation of the assistance given him by the council, and extended his best wishes to those seeking re-election. Mr. A. J. Entrican said Mr. Knight had established a record of service. AH his fellow members recognised he had always endeavoured to do the right thing, and ho carried into his retirement their best' wishes.
A resolution expressing appreciation of the services o[ Mr. Knight and the other members not seeking re-election, and the services of co-opted members of committees was carried.
"Let me say to you young tnen and voung women who are devoting yourselves to the city, 'Be determined to carry on faithfully the work which your ancestors started,' " Mr. "Knight said. He bad always tried to do his best. There was much yet to be done, and he urged the council to go forward on the right course. He was no> goine into'full retirement, as he intended to seek re-election to the Hospital Board, in the work of which he was deeply interested. "I may have years :n number but, thank God,, I do not feet the weight of the»;i." Mr, Knight added amid applause. The other retiring councillors also acknowledged the tributes.
