MANUKAU AMATEUR CLUB.

SATURDAY'S ROAD RACING. In spite of unfavourable weather conditions. tlio Manukau Amateur Cycling Club continued its road racing programme on Saturday. Arrangements had been inado to slago a race at the Mangero speedway, but when the motor races wero postponed this was abandoned. A IG-nules senior race and 11 miles novice raco were held during the afternoon, and there were somo excellent performances. The novice race was remarkable for the fir.o riding of R. (>. Foubister. who. ridms alono otf the 30s murk, finished first nud also returned the> fastest timo of 2£m 555. which is only os lower than tlio record for tho distance established under perfect conditions. Jl. Karrer, 2m 'lss. finished second. C. .1. Wood. 2s 30s. third, and W. Clarke,- 3m 10s, fourth. The senior race was interesting throughout. although rain fell almost continuously. Even at tho end of the first lnr>. tho position was interesting. J. Whitten, who started off scratch, riding well and looking a likely winner. However, the finish was contested by R. R. Watson and C. Harris, both of! the 2m mark. Watson made a great final effort and wop bv two lengths. If. Russell, also off 2m. beat Whitten for third place, and 11. R. jjwisht, 455. finished fifth. An attempt, is to bo made on (he Auckland to Wellington cycling record, held by the Auckland amateur cyclist, Jl. G. Brewin. Tho well-known Wellington amateur wheelman, S. Wright, is coming to Auckland early this week and has asked for oflicial starting and time-cheeking from this end. Wright intends to leave Auckland post- office at noon on Thursday and will I" 1 followed in a car by Mr. D. 11. Mc Fcdries.
