CANADA'S BUDGET.

TWO AMENDMENTS LOST. MAJORITIES FOR GOVERNMENT. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received April 12, 6.15 p.m.) OTTAWA, April 11. The Conservative opposition moved an amendment to the Budget expressing regret that no provision had been made in it for reasonably safeguarding and protecting the interests of those engaged in agricultural and industrial pursuits. This was defeated in (ho House of 'Commons to-day by 62 votes. A sub-amendment moved by the Progressives urged consideration of an immediate and substantial increase in British preference. This was defeated by 336 votes. The Government had a majority of 24 votes on the main Budget motion moved bv the Minister of Finance, Mr. J. A. Robb. This was that the llouso go into committee of ways and means.
