THE MASTER ACTOR.

CAREER OF EMIL JANNINGS. To-day Kmil .Tannings is one of Iho finest dramatic actors in the world. After an extraordinary successful career on the Gorman stage and screen, he has triumphed over mass production methods in the United States. Jannings was born in Brooklyn, New York, but before ho was a week old was taken to Germany. After a few Years at school, he joined a travelling "tlieartiical company, playing his first role when lie was sixteen. Then followed a long period in which he played in the theatres all over the land, ending up under contract lo Max Bernhardt, the great Gernian producer. Some time later Jannings became interested in motion pictures, and secured a small part in a production. He gained world-wide recognition after his performance in " Passion" with i'ola Negri, '• under the direction of Ernst Lubitsch, now a Paramount director. Then followed other great pictures, Jannings reaching the peak with his wonderful work in (' Variety" and " Faust,." Sinco going to America, Jannings has made several pictures for Paramount, ' The Way of All Flesh," " Tho Last Command," " The Street of Sin," and ?' Tho Patriot." He is now engaged in Jho production of " Sins of Tho Fathors.".
