IN THE FIRELIGHT. I am sitting on the floor All in tho warm red glow, And tho Little Firelight Peoplo Como dancing to and fro. They flit about my shoulders, They're sitting on my hair, Whisp'ring magic talcs of Dragon, elephant, and bear. You'll never see tho Fire-Folk When you turn on the light; I s'poso they fly away at Nannie's " Timo to say good-night!" I'm awful quiet, for she thinks That no one elso is there, And Joan says it's all nonsense— She's old —with shingled hair. So I wait till the. light's put out And (ho rosy flickering glows, When dancing over walls and bed Fire-Elfins peep in rows. They know I'm awful sleepy— And they take mo in a boat. Where tho bunny I want so badly Is wearing my new green coat! But I mustn't tell Joan to-morrow, For she's old —with shingled hair. Sho laughs at my firelight fairies, And says there's nothing there!

"BUTTON'S JWY CKOOK! We've got four fowls in our backyard, And none of them's the same; All of them is friends with me— I've gived them each a name. Moppy is a mad fowl, Hopp.v is a sad fowl, Poppy is a glad fowl. But J3ulton is a bad fowl. They're very nice—they sing to me, All on different notes; But most of all I like 1o hear Them gurgle in their throats. Moppy is a grey hen, Hoppy is a bay hen. Poppy is a stray hen. But Button is a gay hen. I spread their corn most carefully, I'udernorith tho tree; Thcv nod their heads and always say, " Thank you, Sir," to me, Moppy is a sly chook, Hoppy is a shy chook. Poppy is a spry chook. But Button—Button's my chook. Henny-Penny.
