CONTESTS FORTY-NINE RACES WINNINGS IN STAKES, £37,800. BY PHAETON. Mr. H. A. Knight elected to pay forfeit for Limerick in connection with tho A.J.C. Plate, run at Randwick last Saturday, and the five-year-old career of the Limond gelding may now he regarded as closed. Leading off with three wins in the early spring. Limerick seemed likely to bp again the star Vroight-for-ago perfornior. Winalot, however, dead-heated with him in tho Spring Stakes, and then followed an unplaced performance in tho Craven Plato, 110 waa then cased up, and ho did not make a reappearance until February last, when he struck his colours to Aussie in the decision of the James Hazlett Plato at Wingatui. Transported cnco again to New South Wales, Limerick was saddled up to contest tho Rawson Slakes at Rosehill, and when he came home third to Winalot and Loquacious in thai race, it was generally concluded that he must be regarded as a back number. The following week, however, saw him to better advantage, when ho boat all hi 3 field with tho exception of Strephon in tho decision of tho Chipping Norton Stakes. Thon at an interval of a week the Now Zealand gelding succeeded in confounding tho critics who had voted him a back number by defeating a strong field in the A.J.C. Spring Stakes. Subsequently Limerick made an effort to win the All-Aged Stakes, but ho failed to beat the speedy Mollison in that race. Providing tho hoof trouble does riot again come against him Limerick may have to be reckoned with when ho comes to raco at six years old. STATEMENT OP PERFORMANCES. At Two Years.
