Bingen Starr, who won the Preliminary Handicap, has not been long in R. B. Berry's stable. Ho gave a very poor showing at the recent New Brighton meeting, but his latest effort was very attractive. He looks like a good stayer, and when properly in his gait he can muster up a lot of speed, in addition to being a fast hejrinner. Ho was exchanged recently for the pacer Machine Gun, and Mr. G. McMillan, of Auckland, has thus had a quick return. Roi Lor was driven a different race than n.,ual in/tho Easter Handicap. He is invariably close up with the leaders in all hiß races, hut on this occasion he was kept well back until the last half-mile. Ho put in fast, work along ths back and came on in the etraight in good style, to gain eocjid money. On the running of the race, however, he did not look as though he had a chance ot beating King Pointer. King Pointer got u splendid position throughout. Hooper was on tho rails for tho best part of the journey, and in the raco up the straight King Pointer showed his great stamina by coming home an easy winner He has been gradually working himself into tho best company, and ns he is ouly sis yeai'3 old he will probably do better ye.fe. Quality who finished third in the Easter Handicap, might have done much better with a gopd jump out. She was very elow to begin,' losing a lot of ground, and this Battled any chance she might havo had of winning. Soon after the start Author Jinkß broke and Waitaki Girl cannoned into him. Both tho' drivers were capsized, but fortunately neither they nor the horses sustained serious injury. The succ ns of Terence Dillon in the Flying Handicap showed that tho Oamaru pacer is on the way back to his best form. In the last New Zealand Cup Terence Dillon was expected to race well, but he was short of a solid preparation to fit him for the hard race, and it has taken him a considerable lime to strike form. Ho should show to advantage later in tho season over two-mile courses. Imprint proved by his showing in this race that, he is in his best form. The Nelson-ownt-d pocer began much better than usual in ihe sprint event, and along the back 'tretch he put in fine work. He got to the k. « a "\ roun<lil, 8 the turn for home, and A Wished resolutely to get second piece.
