DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIP. COMPETITORS AT DANNEVIRKE. [BT TELEGRAriT.— PRESS ASSOCIATION.] DANNEVIRKE, Sunday. Tho twenty-sixth annual Dominion Draughts Congress was opened at Dannevirke on Friday by the Hon. E. A. Ransom. Three competitors at the first New Zealand Congress in Wanganui aro taking part, Messrs. Lyon and Gibson (Mar ton) and Brice (New Plymouth), Following were tho results at tho end of play yesterday: — Championship. —Winners' class ; G. A. Brown, 1 loss, 3 draws; D. Calderwood, 1 win, 3 draws. Calderwood wins this section and waits for the winner of tho losers' class to play off for the title. Losers' class: Gibbard, who had won two games from Gilliooley, drew his third gamo to win the, tie. Brown and Gibbard meet in tho final of the losers' section.
The aggregate scores in the minor tourney at the end of the fifth round were:— F. Hutchins, 7£: K. Botting, 7; J. Bruce, 6: W. Young, 5; C. Millirigton, 4A; D. Gibson, 4J, ; A. M. Nicholson, 4; A. Lyon, 2-jf; J. Shadbolt, li.
At the annual meeting of tho New Zealand Draughts Association it was stated that there was evidence of a distinct revival of interest in the game in the Dominion.
Officers were elected as follows: — Patron, Sir Robert Stout; president. Mr. E. Gibbard (Dannevirke); vice-presidents, Messrs. F. K. Kelling (Wellington), G. A. Brown (Christchurcli), F. Ilutchins (Invercargill), W. Davis (Stratford); general executive, J. Beecot. P. C. Gray. R. Bottincr W. Meldrum. R. Muir. P. Peterson, W. Tibbies, W. B. Randall, W. O'Mallev (Dunedin), J. O'Neill (Waitaki), J.Bruce (New Plymouth), D. Calderwood (Hamilton). It war: decided that tlie next Dominion tourney be held at Invercargill.
