NOTES ON THE RACING. _ MANLY'S GOOD PERFORMANCE DOBBIN DEFEATS NASTORI. rax TELEGH.tPff. —O'.vx C'.'nnESrONDENT.J PALMERSTON" NORTH, Thursday. For the Sanson Hack Hurdles at the Rangitikei meeting to-day Airtight was favourite and there was plenty of support, for Eymestraaon. Airtight went up to Hymestrason in the lead at the five-furlong post, but Hymestrason was jumping w"l!, and Hymestrason ran out at the last fence. interfering t little with Airtight. Hymestrason came on to win by a length and ahalf, with Novar two lengths away. Rangiutu was a furlong away last. Hymestrason may be a good proposition for hurdle events in the south, for he is a quick, clear jumper who gets away from his fences very smartly. In the Maiden R ice Snowshoe was backed down to a short price, with Nasselle, Grattan and Lady Lucerne also well supported. Kali led into 'he straight from I>dy Lucerne, Snowshoe. Grattan and Nasaelle. Snowshoe and Nasaelle came away over the last hit., Xasseile failing by a head to reach Snowshoe. Grattan was two lengths away third, with Kali. Lady Lucerne and Some Acre nest. Xasselle. with a better passage, would have won. The Fraser Memorial Handicap saw Moutoa, Treasury. Hipo and Discourse all fairly solidly backed, with good support for Imperial Spark. At the half mile Lucy Rose led Orazone. Manly. Hipo and Moutoa Treasury Manly and Lucy Rose turned into the straight in the lead from Moutoa Treasury. Orazone and Imperial Spark. Manly held off Orazone by a good head. Lucy Rose was a length away third and then right, up in hna came Imperial Spark, Discourse, Hipo and Moutoa Treasury. Manly won well, but Orazone was unlucky. Lucy Rose ran a good race and should soon score in a little less select company. In the Ngaia Hack Handicap Warfilla and V'inella were the actual favourites, but several others were supported. Elysianor showed out iirsi. and at the turn still showed the way to Warilame and Warfilla. Wartime wore down Elysianor over the last furlong and beat him home by a head. Heads divided V'arfille and Vinella. with Patea re a, Volplane and Acred next,. Elysianor was not disgraced with his 9.5. far Warflame was always handy to him. and just beat him. Patenroa was tha unlucky runner and Vinella was rot over-fortunate. The Bailey Handicap saw Limited always a sound first choice, with Vast Acre and Dobbin also solidly supported. Limited was beaten a furlong from home and Vast Acre also compounded. Dobbin and NTastori went past them and Dobbin beat Nastori home by a head. Limited was two lengths away third, with . 'fit Acrs and Whenuanui right up. Dobbin stayed on well and Vast Acra and Limited ran themselves out in front.

In the Eansitcto Hack Handicap Mister Gamp sad Thrift between them carried nearly half the total amount invested. Kilbum turned Tor home just ahead or Thrift. Mister Gamp and Royal Black. Thrift beat Kiibum herns by half a, length, with Bailed! a length aw a?. Then cama Royal Black and Acred. Thrift and Kilburn both ran aclid race 3. Ballccn was a trifle unlucky. Eonl Black ia an improver.

In the Killeymaon Handicap Glenstar, with H. G online a up and l;lb overweight, was backed aa if the race was all over. Glenstar. Borsaleno and Gold Curs just led Maui as they turned up for home and Glenstar came away over the last furlong to win by two lengths from Gold Cure, who beat Borsnlene by half a length. Maui was fourth. Then came Callanmore and Discourse. Gold Cure was finishing well. Borsalene ran well, but no excuse could be offered for her failure to do better than finish third. For the Farewell Hack Handicap Flying Binge and Bank Mote were the favourites in a good betting race. Inflame began best and came on to beat Bank Nate by a length and a-half. with Second Thought 2£ lengths away third. Marica was fourth and Flying Binge, "White Ringlet and Wyeford were next. Inflame, with the advantage of the rails, won well. Bank Note ran a good race.

Cammick! led Mon Star ■light boy) and Hyde Park (L. Manson) over a round in 1.53. The last ais furlonga occupied 1.23 and The Lover wa3 travelling strongly at the end. Hyde Park had the outside running and the worst of the weights. Te Money finished eeveral lengths m advance of Sleepy Soi at the conclusion of seven furlonga m 1.35 4-5. Myola aaaiated over the last four furlonga and came home alongside 'fa Money, who worked well. Sleepy Sol had a fair weight aboard and was not knocked about. Gemlight and Praetor reeled off three furlongs in 40 1-os and both did it nicely. THE SAND. Eager Rose 3trode along for seven furlongs and covered the last aix in 1.25. This gelding likes the ating out, of the ground and may improve on recent efforts now the tracks are likely to become easier.

They afterwards worked soundly on. the tan in company with Potosnui. NOTES FROM THE TRACK. Recent additions to .T. Buchanan's team it, Ellersiie are a yearling ally by Thespian 'ram -fumble and a two-year-o'.d filly by Luculhis from Tact. Buchanan has had nothing of much account in his stable lately, but ha has several young ones coming on and it would be pleasing to see tiieni turn out winners. Kespirator and Brampton are older members of his string who are working usefully and they may win in hack company when the ciass is not strong. npfpirator haa unproved considerably in condition in the past fortnight. Mr. B. 13. Hart has a very nicely-bred yearling gelding that he has placed under the care of \V. Stone at. Te Awamutu. The youngster is by Chief Ruler from Baby Doll and therefore related to the Australian Cup winner Some Quality, his dam being by Bobadil from the Wallace mare Ses3a, dam of Some Quality. Baby Doll has produced a winner in Tea Cosy, who won a juvenile event in Victoria last season, and breeding is certainly in favour of Mr. Hart's youngster l roving good. I'll era has been nothing special about the latest gallops of Eager Rose, but she lias been working with freedom and should not lack condition when saddled up to congest the I' rankhn Cup on Saturday. Eager Hose has only recently been promoted from hack to open company, but she ran a very creditable fourth in the Taknpuna Cup and slight improvement cn that effort would give her a <"hance in her coming engagement. She ia to he ridden by J, Cammick,

I. 'ieorge ie't, for Westport by the Km tianawa yesterdav with Baby Bun and Royal Lover, who are to race at the autumn meetings on the West Coast. Baby Bun and Royal Lor»r were in nice order when shipped away and ought to be capable of racing well irt the ciass they will encounter at the southern meetings. Everybody would be pleased to sp« George have successful trip with his charges, as his stable has been cut of luck this season FORTHCOMING MEETINGS. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB.
