CITY TRAFFIC OUTLETS.
OBJECTION TO SCHEMES. KARANGAHAPE ROAD PROTEST. A protest against the Belgium Street outlet subway scheme and the Day Street outlet proposals was lodged with the Auckland City Council last evening by the Karangahape Road Business Promotion Society. The council was advised that a special meeting of the society had passed a resolution taking strong exception to the construction of the subway, and expressing the opinion that the project should first be reported upon by the new city engineer and that further details should be to the ratepayers. The society also considered there was no serious traffic congestion in Karangahape Road warranting the expenditure on this and the Day Street scheme. The protest was referred to the Finance and Works Committees, which are considering the scheme.
