COMMENT ON GAME.
LONDON CRITICS' VIEWS.
NEXT YEAR'S PROSPECTS.
CHANCE FOR YOUNG PLAYERS
Australian and N.Z. Press Association. LONDON, Feb. 3,
Further comments on the fourth test cricket match at Adelaido appear in the press. Mr. P. F. Warner, writing in tho Morning Post, says:-r-I never liked our " tail." It is an Achilles heel. Otherwise ours is a great combination though few have confidence in the last five batsmen.
It may be an exaggeration to say that Jackson is an embryo Trumper, but it certainly looks as if we shall havo some highly interesting and capable young Australians hero in 1930.
Mr. Clem Hill cabling to the Daily Telegraph says:—The chances are about even, though England has a slight advantage in Australia's last use of the wicket. Much depends upon how Jackson and Ryder fare on resuming. Australia needs a lead of 100 on the first innings. We will noi; be lucky enough to dismiss England so cheaply in the second innings.
Duckworth's dismissal of Woodfull was the finest I have ever seen. Jackson is the opening batsman Australia has been looking for. Ryder is as gamo as a pebble. I would like to see him go in first wicket down.
Mr. F. E. Woolley, writing in the Daily Chronicle, says: —Australia's potential Trumpers, Hills and Nobles are gaining valuable experience. We must expect an extremely strong team here in 1930. England's total in the first innings is not enough to guarantee success. If Ryder and Jackson remain long enough to overcome tho exacting new ball period the Australians should gain a lead which would enable them to win. The game resembles the fateful match at Adelaido in January, 1925. Jackson's success is the more notable because he had the unnerving experience »f seeing three of Australia's best bats sent back. .
