DEATH OF MR. J. A. E. MAI-ONE

Tho death lias occurred of Mr. J. A E. Ma lone, theatrical manager and pro ducer.

Mr. Malonc was the chief producer of tho J. C. Williamson firm's comedy, " Mr. Cinders," which was to have been presented for tho first time at the Adelphi Theatre on Thursday. In view of his death the opening performance may be postponed. Furthermore Sir Georgo Tallis, Williamson's representative, and five members of the cast, arc suffering from influenza.

Tho late Mr. J. A. E. Mal'one was born in India, a son of Captain J. Malone, V.C., of tho 6tli Inniskilling Dragoons. lie studied medicine at Edinburgh University and also at St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London. He then became an actor and subsequently was stage manager at the Princo of Wales, Theatre, Liverpool. His first London production was " Our Flat " at the Opera Comique in June, 1889, under Willie Edouin. He joined the managerial staff of Georgo Edwards in 1893 and remained with him until the latter's death in 1915. In 1894 Mr. Malone managed " A Gaiety Girl " on a tour round the world, playing across America to Australia. A lonj; career in London and alternatively in New York as producer followed. Since 1921 ho had been a partner in the theatrical firm of Grossmith and Malone, Limited, which controls the Winter Gardens, and the Shaftesbury and His Majesty's Theatres. For some years lie had been London representative of J. C. Williamson, Limited, and the South African '1 heat res Trust.
