CYCLISTS SUSTAIN SPILLS

A strong wind and an overcast sky on Saturday provided a contrast to the beau--1 iful weather which prevailed when the Lyrmdale Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club held its opening meeting in December.. In spile of this, however, Saturday's carnival wna equally as successful and there was quite a good attendance of local residents with a smattering of visitors as well The track was in _ fair order for running, but cyclists experienced some difficulty on it and about a dozen riders came to grief during the day. A. Sercombe fell heavily in the three miles and it was necessary to remove him to hospital. Most of tho other riders w r ho fell were brought down through a front man skidding and they were not seriously hurt. One or two cyclists were compelled to pull up through flat tyres, and in at least two cases it was found a tack -mounted through a small square of rubber had been picked up. This shows the punctures were not accidental, but more likely the nranks of small boys. Throughout the day the New Lynn Boys' Band played selections. The results are:—
