A native, Sam Ngawharo, aged 20, appealed in the Police Court this morning on several charges. The first count was that on February 1 ho unlawfully converted (o his own use a mofor-car valued at £l5O. He was further charged that on February 1 ho was found by night without lawful excuse upon enclosed premises at llairini. Tho third charge was that ho stole a cheque book, tho properly of S L. Simons.

The evidence of the police was to tho effect that about midnight on Friday a complaint was received that a person was prowling around a house at llairini. Tho police proceeded to llairini and found a car oil the road. On Saturday accused was arrested in connection with other charges, and when questioned admitted taking tho car from Spring Street, and also being on the premises at llairini. Tho car was not damaged. Ngawharo was sentenced to two months' imprisonment for unlawful conversion of tho car. On tho other two charges ho was convicted and discharged. Ngawharo was then charged that at Tauranga ori January 26 ho forged a Hioquo for £5 10s in the name of S. L. Simons, and caused it to be acted upon as genuine.

The police applied for a remand for a week, which was granted.
