FAMOUS INDIAN SCOUT.

ADVENTUROUS LIFE ENDED. A MATCH FOR THE SIOUX. [FROM Ol'R OWN CORRESPONDENT.] SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. !). Captain Luther Sago Kelly, famous Indian scout and soldier, has passed away at his home in Paradise, California, at the age of 79. A friend of President House veil and a soldier of fortune in many climes, the old scout lived out his last days in memories of a career that usually xnakf-s attractive historical reading for boys. Born in New York State in 1849 Captain Kelly gained farrio as Yellowstone Kelly—a soubriquet he had acquired through his knowledge of the trails of Wyoming and Montana in the early seventies, when the last of the hostile Indian tribes of the West were being brought under subjugation. The most adventurous period of Captain Kelly's life was between 1868 and 1882. He served as chief scout under General Miles during the bitter winter campaign of 1876-77. Ho also saw service during the Civil War, was a member of two Alaskan expeditions, and was ActingGovernor of Suragao in the Philippines for 18 months, during an insurrection of the Filipinos, who surrounded his force frequently. Discharged from the Army in 1868 Caplain Kelly became known as a great hunter, trapper and scout. Ho hunted alone, and carried Army despatches without escort, disdaining protection against the hostile Sioux. He made a notable journey, for which ho volunteered, in carrying despatches through 50 miles of hostile country between Fort Buford, Montana, to Fort Stevenson. Returning, he successfully outwitted the Sioux, who ambushed him, and they were so impressed with his bravery that they left him alone thenceforth. Ho was successful under General Miles in campaigns against the Cheyennes and the notorious Sitting Bull. In the Yellowstone, for his lonely habit of living, he became known as the Lone Wolf. .
