SALVATION ARMY.

SUGGESTION FOR MEDIATION. ' LORD DAVIDSON'S ADVICE. Australian Press Association—United Service. (Received February 3, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Feb. 2. The High Council of the Salvation Army met yesterday morning and adjourned after a very brief discussion. It is understood that it was decided to write to Goneral Bramwell Booth inquiring when ho or his counsel will be prepared to appear before the council to state their case in opposition to the General's deposition from office.

Tho Daily Mail says the council rescinded its previous resolution to depose the General. Tho latter is expected to reply next week to the council's invitation to reply to the suggestion that he is unfit to continue in supreme command of the army.

The Daily Chronicle says Lord Davidson, formerly Archbishop of Canterbury, has been asked to act as mediator in the dispute. It is understood that he is not averse to the proposal and that the Booth family welcome the suggestion, which has not yet been conveyed to the council. The Daily Express says it understands Lord Davidson has written a friendly letter to General Booth referring to his age and his health and advising him to retire.
