PROPRIETOR SHOT DEAD.

SUICIDE OF ASSAILANT. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received February 3, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 3. There was a dramatic shooting tragedy in the smoking room of the Boyal Hotel at Buxton. A customer, former Ser-geant-Major Ilayward, fired a revolver twice at a barmaid, Ellen 'frenholme, and wounded her slightly. The proprietor of tho hotel, Frank Turner, hearing her screams, rushed in to protect the girl, when a bullet entered his brain. and lie fell dead. Ilayward then put the muzzle of the revolver in his mouth and shot himself dead.
